Aris’ strong start to the season came to an abrupt halt on Saturday as the Salonica club dropped their first points courtesy of a 1-0 defeat at PAS Giannina.
Georgios Delizisis’ second-half own goal proved decisive as the home side picked up their second win of the season against in-form Aris, who had begun the season with three straight wins on their return to the top flight after a long absence.
The crucial moment came after 65 minutes, when French striker Jean-Baptiste Léo’s shot took a wicked deflection off Delizisis and beat the stranded Aris goalkeeper Julián Cuesta.
Aris enjoyed the better of the first half possession, but Paco Herrera’s men struggled to create chances, although they did hit the crossbar through Argentine forward Mateo Garcia after 24 minutes.
The visitors again enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the second half but lacked a cutting edge against the hosts’ well-drilled rearguard.
After Delizisis’ own goal, Aris pushed for an equaliser but the home side held firm to secure the points, much the delight of the home fans inside the Zosimades Stadium.
