Aris made a statement in their return to the Greek SuperLeague by thrashing Lamia 0:3 on Monday.
One of Greece’s most historic clubs, Aris Thessaloniki, made their long-awaited return to the Greek SuperLeague on Monday after a four-year absence saw the club fight through the Greek third and second divisions since 2014. The Thessalonikis thrashed Lamia 0:3 in their first SuperLeague match of the season, making a clear statement to all that the club has returned to the top tier of Greek Football with high expectations for the new year.
It was a stormy day in Lamia, but that did not hold back the visitors who opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with a header from former Atromitos man Diguiny. The visitors doubled their lead in similar fashion when Garcia did well to turn in Tzanakakis’ cross with 20 minutes remaining, giving Aris the 0:2 advantage. The perfect SuperLeague return for Aris came just eight minutes later when Bruno Gama’s rocket from outside the penalty area found the back of the net, sealing the three points and 0:3 victory for Aris.
Lamia, who one of the favorites to be relegated at the end of the season will, will be disappointed with their start to the 2018/19 campaign, while Aris will look to build on their performance when they host AE Larissa next week.
