First-half goals from Bruno Gama and Giannis Fetfatzidis after 31 and 42 minutes respectively proved the difference between the two sides on the night, as Michael Oenning’s Aris side cemented their grip on fifth spot with a three-point haul to put their 2-0 defeat to Panetolikos last week behind them.

Panionios did not have the quality to match their opponents from Thessaloniki, and they also finished the game with a numerical disadvantage after Oumar Camara was sent off for picking up a second yellow card with 10 minutes left.

The win moved Aris on to 32 points, and they are now four points clear of sixth-placed OFI Crete, while Panionios remain rooted to the foot of the table with just nine points to show for their efforts.

Meanwhile, in Tripoli, Asteras chalked up their second win in three matches as they beat Panetolikos 2-1 at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium.

The Arcadians went in front thanks to Jeronimo Barrales 51st-minute strike, only for the visitors to pull level in the hour mark through Farley Rosa’s marker. But the home side claimed all three points courtesy of Milos Deletic’s late strike in the fifth minute of time added on for stoppages.

The win lifted Asteras into 11th spot with 25 points, while Panetolikos remain second-from-bottom with just 13 points.
