Asteras claim point in Agrinio

Panetolikos played to an entertaining 1-1 draw with Asteras Tripolis in Agrinio as their fight for Super League survival in the playouts continues.

Following Panionios’ dramatic victory against Xanthi on Saturday, Panetolikos needed a victory to haul themselves to the safety zone, but they had to settle for just the one point as Asteras kept their hosts at bay in Agrinio. At the moment, Panetolikos find themselves in seventh spot of the playout standings, level on points with Xanthi and one above Panionios. Asteras lead the table with 36 points.
It didn’t take long for Asteras to take the lead on the road.
After participating in a neat combination play, Juan Munafo fired a low attempt beyond Jesus Fernandez in the 11th minute, with the ball ricocheting into the net off the right post.
Nevertheless, with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, Abiola Dauda equalised for Panetolikos, as he bundled the ball over the line after taking it past Nikos Papadopoulos.
Xesc Regis came close on two occasions for Asteras during the ensuing second half. However, when taking aim at point blank range, he was twice denied by Fernandez as the Panetolikos goalkeeper displayed excellent reactions.
Panetolikos increased the intensity of their play as the minutes ticked by. In stoppage time, Admir Bajrovic passed up a great chance to snatch a victory for the home side, curling a free kick off target.
In their next game, Panetolikos will face Atromitos in Peristeri, while Asteras will take on Volos NFC at home.
