Athanasiadis pens two-year deal with PAS Giannina

After his departure from Maccabi Haifa, Greek striker Stefanos Athanasiadis has eventually found himself a new team, penning a two-year deal with PAS Giannina.

Watch LIVE from AGONAsport: Estonia - Greece, UEFA Nations League on Saturday September 8th. Details here.

Last summer, 29-year old Athanasiadis was released from PAOK and opted to try his luck abroad, joining Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa. However, the move didn’t work in Athanasiadis’ favour, as he only scored the one goal in 12 domestic championship matches and struggled to make an impression. Athanasiadis decided to cancel his contract with Haifa and after a few months unemployed, it was revealed that he’s signed a two-year deal with Super League team PAS Giannina. PAS confirmed his arrival with this statement:

“PAS Giannina 1966 can confirm the acquisition of striker Stefanos Athanasiadis. With our team, he will wear the number 9 on his back and he signed a contract until 30/06/2020.”

In a brief interview published on the Ioannina club’s website, Athanasiadis thanked PAS for trusting him: “I want to thank the team’s management and coach for the trust which they have shown me. I will do my best to help PAS achieve their goals. My performances will do the talking.”

PAS also posted a video on their social media platforms announcing the signing of Athanasiadis.

During his career, Athanasiadis has played for PAOK, Panserraikos and Maccabi Haifa, also representing the under 19, 21 and senior Greek national teams.
