While the international break continues, Peristeri outfit Atromitos hosted Panathinaikos at their home stadium, a friendly match dedicated to the victims of the tragic fires in the Attica region which killed and injured over 250 people. Teaming up with fan organisation Fentagin, Atromitos revealed that all ticketing proceeds raised from the game would be donated to those in need, with tickets costing 10 and 15 euros.

With a decent turn-out attending the duel at the Peristeri Stadium, home team Atromitos managed to defeat Panathinaikos 1:0, as Brazilian midfielder Madson curled a gorgeous long-range effort beyond stricken opposing goalkeeper Vasilis Xenopoulos on 75 minutes. Despite the game’s ‘friendly’ status, both clubs displayed real competitiveness, not holding back with committed challenges and competing at an entertaining tempo. In control for the majority of the game, Atromitos restricted Panathinaikos to a handful of opportunities, and not even the introduction of ex-Manchester United striker Federico Macheda could help the Greens come away with a result.

However, early in the second half, trouble broke out on the stands as Panathinaikos supporters began hurling firecrackers towards the sector holding Atromitos’ hardcore fans who then retaliated by ripping out and throwing seats. As the situation threatened to get out of hand, the match was stopped for five minutes while riot police entered the arena and calmed proceedings down.
