Atromitos put in an uninspiring performance against a battling Xanthi side on Saturday as their SuperLeague matchday 2 clash ended in a scrappy goalless draw.

Neither side looked like breaking the deadlock in the match during which defences were on top and slick passing was hard to come by in Peristeri.
Xanthi came to set their stall out to defend and get a point, and Milan Rastavac’s side got exactly that, while Damir Canadi would have been very frustrated with his team’s lack of creativity which has been the hallmark of their play for the last 12 months.
Neither side looked dangerous in a dour first-half of very few chances, with both defences on top and some scrappy passing not allowing either side to get going.
The second half at least saw an injection of urgency into the game and it was the visitors who were first to threaten when Slovenian striker Erik Jendrišek got a sight of goal just two minutes into the second 45 minutes. Thankfully for Atromitos, however, his effort flashed wide.
Atromitos finally managed to get behind Xanthi’s backline as the second half wore on, but on-loan PAOK forward Efthymis Koulouris flashed his effort wide of the post after 66 minutes.
There was also a good chance for Atromitos’ Austrian midfielder Armin Mujakic late on, but he also headed wide from a good position as the match which looked destined to end in stalemate went true to its script.
