Better than Messi? Ronaldo? Platini? Kostas Frantzeskos tops them all

Recently, the site ‘Oh my goal’ produced rankings for the top 15 free-kick takers of all time based on goals scored. Juninho Pernambucano topped the list (77 goals) and is arguably the best set-piece specialist to ever play in the modern game.
Further down the list in 11th place is a Greek. Former Panathinaikos, OFI, PAOK, Aris (amongst other club sides) and Greek national team player Kostas Frantzeskos finds himself just outside the top ten with his amazing total of 57 free-kick goals in a 15-year career where he scored 132 goals in total. That number of free-kick goals puts him above the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Michel Platini, and Andrea Pirlo.

Some of Frantzeskos’ free-kicks for club and country are legendary. The Athens-born midfielder once scored three free-kicks in a Greek league encounter against Kastoria. Particularly memorable strikes from his lethal left foot were goals against the likes of Atletico Madrid for PAOK and versus Bosnia for the national team. Frantzeskos surprisingly struggled from the penalty spot leading him to once suggest that "Next time we win a penalty, and they want me to take it, I’'ll ask for a wall".
Currently coaching in the Panathinaikos youth ranks, Frantzeskos’ place on the list is a testament to his devastating dead-ball accuracy and represents hard evidence that he ranks as the best Greek free-kick taker of all time.
