Panathinaikos are through to the semifinals of the Greek Cup after managing a 76-68 win over Promitheas at the Dimitris Tofalos Arena in Patras on Monday night.

Nick Calathes led the way for the Trifylli with 15 points and 5 assists as the Greek point guard finished as just one of three Panathinaikos players to finish in double figures. DeShaun Thomas notched 12 points and Stephane Lasme added 10 points in the win for Xavi Pascual’s side.

Promitheas, who continue to impress on the European stage in the Basketball Champions League, were unable to slow down Panathinaikos despite a 14-point, 11- rebound double-double from Terell Parks Sr.

Michalis Tsairelis and Rion Brown also finished in double figures in scoring for Promitheas tallying 13 and 11 points respectively.

Panathinaikos took the early initiative thanks to a high-scoring first quarter, after which the Athenians emerged with a 29-24 lead.

The Panathinaikos lead would continue to grow quarter by quarter as the Trifylli extended their lead to seven points by halftime (46-39) before going ahead by double digits by the end of the third frame (61-50).

Promitheas’ best quarter arguably came in the fourth quarter when the Patras outfit closed the gap in the score back to single digits, but by then the damage was done by Panathinaikos as the Trifylli will feature in the semifinals of the Greek Cup for the 15th straight year.

Panathinaikos will be joined by Olympiacos, PAOK, and Kymis in the semifinals after the trio managed wins over the weekend.
