“My agent held a meeting with the AEK management, and we came to the conclusion that we will continue working together until the summer of 2021,” revealed Carrera when speaking to the AEK press-office. “I’m only thinking about the upcoming games. We want to achieve positive results in order to take AEK higher up the standings. The most important thing is to achieve our goals.”

Carrera, 55, has introduced much-needed stability to AEK after replacing Nikos Kostenoglou as manager in late 2019. So far, the Italian manager has been at the AEK helm for 17 matches, registering 11 victories, five draws, one defeat and a positive goal difference of 25-8. AEK currently occupy third place of the Super League standings and hold a 2-1 advantage over Aris from the first leg of the Greek Cup semi-finals.

On Sunday, the Super League playoffs are set to begin in Greece, with AEK scheduled to host Panathinaikos inside an empty Olympic Stadium. All sporting events in the country will take place behind closed doors for the time being as a result of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
