As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which is continuing to take the lives of thousands of people across the world, the 2019/2020 sporting season has been suspended for the time being. In recent reports, there have been plenty of rumours suggesting that the campaign will soon be cancelled, however Ceferin rebuffed those claims with this following statement to the media:

“I've seen and heard some fake news that UEFA will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are in first position. I can say that it's not true. Our goal is to finish the domestic championships and we didn't recommend anything like that to any association or any league."

Earlier this week, UEFA Euro 2020 was formally postponed until 2021, meaning there is time for the club season to be completed. UEFA wants the 2019/2020 campaign to end no later than June 30th.

In Greece, there is a plan to stage the Super League playoffs and playouts between May and June, however the fate of the season hinges on whether the coronavirus outbreak can be contained within the next two months. The Hellenic government has practically brought the country to a standstill in a bid to somehow beat the illness which is proving extremely difficult to control.

Moreover, the UEFA Champions League final is now reportedly scheduled to be played on June 27th in Turkey, while the UEFA Europa League showpiece game will be held on June 24th on Polish soil. Olympiacos are competing against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Round of 16 of the Europa League, with the tie level at 1-1 after the first leg in Piraeus last week.

UEFA hold the goal of completing all two-legged games in the Champions League and Europa League before June 9th.
