Dioudis Commits to New Deal

Sokratis Dioudis has ended speculation in terms of his future by committing to a new contract that will keep him at Panathinaikos until 2023. The goalkeeper has been in tremendous form once again this season, picking up from where he left off last season. As a result, he has been given a chance in the Greek squad by John van ’t Schip.

The former Aris and Panionios shot-stopper joined the Trifylli in 2017 and has amassed over 60 appearances since replacing Odisseas Vlachodimos. Dioudis thanked the club management, coaching staff, and players for showing confidence in his abilities and stated he wants to “fight for Panathinaikos.” He also said that he wants to help “bring Panathinaikos back on the road to success and winning titles.”

Athanasakopoulos Follows Suit

Young midfielder Andreas Athanasakopoulos also agreed to a new deal at the Greens, keeping him at the club until 2022. Panathinaikos confirmed the news last week, expressing their delight in tieing down the talented 18-year-old.

Deemed as one of the most prominent young talents at the club, he has been pivotal to the success of the youth teams. It is also worth remembering he was a free agent last summer and chose to stay at the Trifylli amid interest from Olympiacos.

Talks Begin with Donis and Apostolakis

New technical director Xavi Roca has continued to place emphasis on contract renewals of players who are expected to have a future at the club. Coupled with an array of exciting signings, the Spaniard is doing a great job so far.

Attention has now turned to lock down Christos Donis and Kostas Apostolakis. Talks about respective contract extensions with the pair have begun in recent days. Further developments will be known after this current run of derby fixtures against AEK and PAOK. Donis has emerged as a leader of the team and is in career-best form, while Apostolakis is currently the second-choice right-back behind Mattias Johansson.

Share Capital Increase Takes Place

Giannis Alafouzos has continued to invest in Panathinaikos. Club management confirmed a new share capital increase to the tune of 3.2 million EUR took place. This news emerged from the latest meeting between the Board of Directors. This portion is part of the five-million EUR share capital increase announced by the club in November last year. This will continue to assist in wiping off the club’s debt and, in turn, put the Greens in a better financial position. This will allow for budget increases, signing better players in the future, and also make the club look better in the eyes of potential investors.

Fausto Returns to Spain

Versatile Spaniard Fausto Tienza has officially returned to his native country. The 30-year-old has been heavily out of favour ever since joining the club only a few months ago. He only featured a mere 52 minutes for the Greens and has joined Tarragona in the Spanish third tier in a loan move until the end of this season.
