Yesterday, Greece made the perfect start to the European championship qualifying campaign with a comfortable 2:0 victory in Liechtenstein, but Anastasiadis was dealt yet another injury blow. In the 23rd minute, Mitroglou had to be substituted after picking up a knock, and he will not recover in time for Tuesday’s hugely important game against the Bosnians.

It’s now been confirmed that Panionios forward Durmishaj will take the place of Mitroglou for the match with Bosnia in Zenica.

Initially, Anastasiadis wanted to have Durmishaj in the team for both of these matches, but the relevant documentation from the Albanian Football Association didn’t arrive in time. Durmishaj, who is a citizen of both Greece and Albania, previously made a combined 10 appearances for the U17 and U21 Albanian national teams.

Nevertheless, all of the required documents are now in place, and all that remains is the final green light from FIFA. On Monday, it’s expected that FIFA will issue permission for Durmishaj to represent Greece at senior international level.

So far, 22-year-old Durmishaj has played in 30 matches for Panionios across all competitions in the 2018/2019 season, contributing with 11 goals and one assist. He has spent his entire footballing career in Greece.
