During the week, an elderly man decided to take a walk to analyse the construction progress of the Agia Sofia Stadium, but he was subsequently spotted by the police who promptly punished him with a fine amounting to 150 euros. Strict restrictions on the movement of people were introduced at the start of March in order to battle against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has killed over 90 in Greece.

The man blamed his wife for not giving him the required documentation to go for a wander.

Nevertheless, AEK supremo, Dimitris Melissanidis, has come to his rescue.

After hearing of the news, Melissanidis decided to cover the fine in full, but he didn’t stop there. The 69-year-old business tycoon also made the call to issue the man the first season ticket for the maiden campaign at the Agia Sofia Stadium.

The Kitrinomavri are expected to move into the venue for the start of the 2021/2022 campaign. Reports have heavily suggested that AEK will play their home games in nearby Rizoupoli next season instead of remaining at the unpopular Olympic Stadium.

AEK supporters had also been willing to pay the fine for the man in question.
