The sporting calendar across the world has undergone radical changes since the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on a global stage. Most recently, the world’s biggest sporting event, the Olympic Games, were officially postponed until 2021.

This development will inevitably affect competitions scheduled to take place in 2021, including EuroBasket 2021, scheduled for 2 September - 19 September 2021. Four nations will host the event, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia, and the coronavirus’ new epi-center, Italy.

With the Olympics likely to take place next summer (unconfirmed), it would be impossible for EuroBasket 2021 to be held just a few weeks later. Many players that would compete at the Olympics would also be summoned to play at the European Championships, which would make it unrealistic for Eurobasket 2021 to be held next September.

At the moment, 2022 looks open for EuroBasket as there will be no Olympics nor a FIBA World Cup, which is scheduled for 2023.

Greece have gone two for two in their EuroBasket 2021 qualifying campaign, tallying wins over Bulgaria and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and sit atop Group H. Their next qualifier, which could also be postponed, is scheduled for 26 November at home to Latvia.
