First official loss under Michael Skibbe
Greece’s loss to Belgium on Sunday was the first official defeat under coach Michael Skibbe and the first in two years.
On Sunday, Greece were handed a 1-2 loss to Group H leaders Belgium at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Piraeus. The loss was Greece’s first in this qualifying campaign and their first official loss (not including friendlies) under German coach Michael Skibbe.
In fact, the last time Greece tasted defeat in an official match was during the tragic Euro 2016 qualifying campaign where the Galanolefki fell to Northern Ireland 3-1 in Belfast on October 8, 2015. Since then Greece has recorded 4 wins (Hungary, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Estonia) and 4 draws (Bosnia, Belgium, Bosnia, Estonia). Greece’s last official win was away to Estonia back on October 10, 2016.
Greece have managed two undefeated qualifying campaigns in team history, including the 1994 World Cup and Euro 2012.
