Milan Sevo, a former goalkeeper, boasts the title of the oldest player to participate in an Alpha Ethniki/Super League match. In the 1999/2000 campaign, the Serbian competed in nine league games with AO Trikala, with his final match being a 1-1 draw against OFI when he was 40 years, six months and 11 days old. Sevo subsequently sat on the bench for the remaining five matches of the domestic campaign.

Antonis Nikopolidis, a 2004 European champion with Greece, is in second place after he played in his last Super League game against AE Larissa when 40 years, three months and two days of age, not conceding any goals as Olympiacos won 6-0 at the Karaiskakis Stadium. The legendary goalkeeper decided to hang up his boots when the 2010/2011 season ended after a hugely successful career which included 10 national league titles.

Both Fotaq Strakosha and Vangelis Chosadas, in third and fourth place respectively, were also goalkeepers during their playing days.

The only outfield player on the list is Anastasios Mitropoulos. Now 62, the Volos native competed as an attacking midfielder when he was a professional footballer, notably becoming a league champion seven times and winning the Greek Cup twice. Mitropoulos retired as an Olympiacos player after the 1997/1998 season ended, but he hadn’t played in a single league game in that particular campaign. His last Alpha Ethniki match had been recorded on 29 May 1997 for Veria against OFI.

Here is the list of five oldest players to make an appearance in the Alpha Ethniki/Super League:

  1. Milan Sevo - 40 years, 6 months, 11 days (Trikala - OFI, 26/03/2000)

  2. Antonis Nikopolidis - 40 years, 3 months, 2 days (Olympiacos - AEL, 17/04/2011)

  3. Fotaq Strakosha - 40 years, 1 month, 26 days (Panionios - Ergotelis, 25/05/2005)

  4. Vangelis Chosadas - 39 years, 9 months, 2 days (Iraklis - OFI, 19/11/2000)

  5. Anastasios Mitropoulos - 39 years, 9 months, 2 days (Veria - OFI, 25/05/1997)
