Football League match between Veria and Aris under investigation

Recently, the EPO’s Ethics Committee sentenced OFI and Aiginiakos to relegation for allegedly fixing a 2017/2018 Football League match which the former won 6:0, however the punishment is subject to a forthcoming appeal. Now, according to reports in the Greek media, the organisation is investigating the Veria - Aris match in the same campaign, with betting patterns being analysed.

On January 31, 2018, Aris defeated Veria 1:0 on the road in the Football League with a late goal from Giannis Pasas. Later in the season, Aris earned promotion to the Super League, but Veria were relegated to the Gamma Ethniki. Aris are currently on course to qualify for the 2019/2020 UEFA Europa League as they sit in fifth place of the domestic championship, while in the Gamma Ethniki, Veria are leading Group 2.

15 matches in the Greek Cup and Football League have been investigated by the authorities in Athens and Thessaloniki since April 2018. Aris have only just returned to the top flight after spending a number of years in the lower leagues because of a financial collapse, and in the event that they were eventually found guilty, it would be a huge blow to the ambitious club.

The investigation is ongoing and nothing has been confirmed.
