Greece U17 had started with an impressive triumph against Scotland on Wednesday, but the Germans proved too strong in this one. Nevertheless, the Greeks did have chances to claim something from the match, registering 15 shots in comparison to Germany’s 13.

Oliver Batista Meier opened the scoring midway through the first half, beating 16-year old Greek goalkeeper Christos Mandas from the penalty spot. The hosts pressed for a leveller, however two late goals from Ole Pohlmann and Noah Katterbach sealed a 3:0 victory for Germany.

Germany occupy first place in Group 8, level on four points with Norway. Following this defeat, Greece U17 now fall to third spot with three points, while Scotland are rock bottom with nothing to show for their efforts. In order to qualify for the 2018 U17 European championships, teams must finish in first position of their groups or be one of the seven best runners up.

On Tuesday, the young Greeks take on Norway in Patras in a must-win encounter.
