The Ethniki Neon began their title defense in dominant fashion with a lopsided 92-62 win over Romania at the Messe Chemnitz on Saturday.
Greece, who arrived in Germany as the team to beat following last summer’s capture of the European crown in Crete, made short work of their opening day adversaries.
Dimitris Moraitis finished as Greece’s leading scorer with 16 points, while Georgios Kalaitzakis and Vassilis Christidis each added 13 points.
After a relatively low scoring first quarter saw Greece hold a 15-7 lead, Greece went on to double that lead by halftime for a 40-24 advantage after 20 minutes.
Greece would only increase that lead in the second half as the reigning U20 European Champions cruises to the finish line.
Greece are back in action on Sunday when they take on hosts Germany in what should be a slightly more competitive outing for the Ethniki Neon.
