In the opening singles match, world number six Stefanos Tsitsipas cruised past Filipino Alberto Lim, who is currently unranked and has a career-high of 1371 in the world. The Greek won 6-2 6-1 in just 53 minutes, giving Greece a 1-0 lead. He now holds a perfect 5-0 record in Davis Cup singles matches, and has never even dropped a set in the competition.

Petros Tsitsipas (world number 1169) then took on Filipino number one Jeson Patrombon (world number 1421), who holds a career-high ranking of 869. This would result in another 6-2 6-1 win for Greece, putting the Greeks up 2-0 overall.

Doubles will be played on Saturday, with Greece’s Markos Kalovelonis and Petros Tsitsipas set to take on Francis Casey Alcantara and Ruben Gonzales. Then, two additional singles matches will be played. Should Greece win the doubles point, it is likely that only one singles match will be played afterwards. The Greeks are looking to advance to the World Group II, which will take place in September.
