Greece falls, but advances to knockout stage

Bulgaria defeated Greece 3-0 at the Women’s European Volleyball Championship, but the Greeks were still able to clinch a berth for the knockout rounds.

Before the match, Greece had already been aware of their qualification to the next phase after Finland beat France 3-1. The Greeks then got off to a solid start, going up 8-7 early in the first set. However, they would soon find themselves trailing 12-16, and they ultimately dropped the set 22-25. Bulgaria then carried this momentum into the second set, as they won it 17-25 to go up 0-2 overall.

In the third set, the score was close early on with Bulgaria holding a narrow 7-8 lead. However, they soon ran away with it, taking it 17-25 to clinch their first win of the tournament.

Greece will wrap up group play on Wednesday against Serbia, the reigning world and European champions.
