Greece sink to record low in FIFA Rankings

For the first time since the FIFA Rankings were introduced, Greece have plummeted as low as 60th position following miserable results in September.

This month, the Greek national team competed in their first two matches under the guidance of newly-appointed head coach John van ‘t Schip, contriving to concede a 1-0 defeat to Finland on the road before drawing 1-1 with lowly Liechtenstein at the Olympic Stadium. Greece have lost four of their last five matches in what has been a terrible year for the Ethniki Omada.

Greece have now fallen six places to 60th position in the FIFA World Ranking, trailing the likes of Congo DR, Mali and Slovenia. Burkina Faso, Bulgaria, Qatar and Albania aren’t far behind the Greeks either:

This is the lowest position which Greece have held since the FIFA Rankings were introduced in 1992. The previous record was 57th place in 2001:

At the moment, Belgium lead the FIFA World Ranking, holding a slender lead over world champions France and Brazil:

Greece are next scheduled to play in October against Italy and Bosnia. The Ethniki currently hold fifth place of Group J in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying with a mere five points from six games.
