Greece tally important victory in Bosnia

Greece took an important step towards the 2021 EuroBasket competition with an exciting 70-65 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina on the road.

On Friday, the Episimi Agapimeni registered an opening victory against Bulgaria in Patras, and the team subsequently put Bosnia to the sword by five points away from home to take full control of Group H. The leading three teams of the group will qualify for the final competition which will take place in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany and Italy next September.

In Tuzla, Dimitris Agravanis (17 points), Giannoulis Larentzakis (15 points) and Evangelos Margaritis (14 points) took a leading role for Greece, while Miralem Halilovic scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Bosnia.

The next round of EuroBasket qualifiers will be held in November.

THE MATCH

Initially, Greece made a slow start in Bosnia, falling 12-8 behind. However, the team quickly improved, and a wonderful buzzer beater from Larentzakis secured a 17-16 lead:

Playing with the momentum, the Greeks took a firm grip of proceedings in the second quarter, eventually pulling away to take the period by five points.

Greece, displaying solid defensive play, ended the game as a contest in the third period by winning it 19-9.

In the fourth quarter, Bosnia did threaten a comeback as they won it 22-11, but Greece held on to emerge victorious.
