After securing a place in the next round of Euro 2018 qualifying with a 6-0 win over Gibraltar, the group leaders Greece and Serbia battled it out for first place bragging rights in the final Group 5 fixture. Thymianis put Greece ahead at the half hour mark, but Vadisavljevic’s 49th minute penalty pulled Serbia level.

Six minutes later, Greece retook the lead thanks to Mavroudis’ goal, but once again Serbia responded. Mitrovic equalized nine minutes before the end (40 minute halves) to re-give Serbia the upper hand for first place in the group (A draw would give Serbia first place) and the comeback was completed in stoppage time as Novakovic gave Serbia the 3-2 win and a perfect nine points from three matches in group play.

Serbia claimed first place in the group while Greece finished second with six points and will begin their preparations for the next round of qualifying in March.
