Greek Football League to start on October 22
The 2017/18 Greek Football League draw will take place next Thursday, October 5, and the new season will kick-off on October 22nd.
In today’s Football League Board of Directors meeting, key decisions were made regarding the upcoming season including the draw date and the season’s start date. The Football League draw will take place in one week, on Thursday October 5th, while the kick-off date for the 2017/18 season was set for October 22.
With the late start to the season, it was decided that there will be 5 mid-week matchdays, in addition to the weekend fixtures, to make up for the lost time so that the season can conclude by the end of May. The teams were also informed that a main sponsor for the league was found for the new season, however details about who this sponsor is were not released. According to the league, the Football League and the sponsor are in the final negotiations before officializing a deal.
The Football League will include 18 teams (like last season) and at the end of the season, two teams will gain promotion to the SuperLeague while four teams will be relegated to the Gamma Ethniki.
