Greek pole vaulters amongst best of the decade

“Track and Field News” has named Konstantinos Filippidis, Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou, and Katerina Stefanidi as some of the best pole vaulters of the 2010s decade.

Stefanidi was ranked second on the women’s top 10 list, only behind American Jenn Suhr. Stefanidi won an Olympic gold, a World Championship gold, two European Championship golds, a European Indoor Championship gold, and five other medals at major international competitions throughout the decade. Additionally, she won the Diamond League title four years in a row (2016 to 2019).

Also featuring in the women’s top 10 was Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou, coming in seventh place. Kyriakopoulou won two European Championship medals, one World Championship medal, and one European Indoor Championship medal over the past decade.

On the men’s list, Greece’s Konstantinos Filippidis was ranked tenth. Filippidis won gold at the 2014 World Indoor Championships and silver at the 2017 European Indoor Championships. France’s Renaud Lavillenie occupied the top spot on the list.

The 2010s were an extremely successful decade for Greek pole vaulting. Greek pole vaulters won medals in each of the last 13 major international competitions, a streak dating back to 2014.
