The World Championships will be held from July 14-28 in Gwangju, South Korea. The Greek men were drawn into Group A with Serbia, Montenegro, and hosts South Korea. Serbia has been crowned world champion several times (and is currently the reigning four-time defending European champion), while Montenegro’s best result was a silver medal in 2013. Greece won bronze in both 2005 and 2015, and got fourth place in 2003 and 2017. South Korea will be making their first appearance at the World Championships.

On the other hand, Greece’s women’s team got a more favorable draw. They were placed in Group C with Cuba, Kazakhstan, and Spain. It will likely be a battle between Greece and Spain for first place in the group. Greece came seventh at the last edition of this event in 2017, but won gold back in 2011. Spain came second in 2017, and were first back in 2013. Cuba will be making their first World Championships appearance since 2011, with their best result being a ninth place finish back in 2005. Kazakhstan came 15th in 2017, with 2001 being their best result with an eighth place finish then.
