In truth, Panathinaikos had already done the hard work in this tie, having comfortably triumphed 3-1 in Patras in the first leg. Nevertheless, the Prasini took the second match in Athens seriously, and two second-half goals earned a routine 2-0 win and 5-1 aggregate victory.

Dimitris Kolovos and Argyris Kampetsis were the scorers on the night for Panathinaikos.

Panathinaikos will now turn their attentions to the Super League again as they prepare to make the trip to Volos. Panachaiki, for their part, are competing in the Super League 2 and will play against FC Chania at home on Monday.

THE MATCH

Fielding a strong line-up with the likes of Sokratis Dioudis, Dimitris Kolovetsios and Dimitris Kourbelis in the starting 11, Panathinaikos dominated proceedings and should have made the breakthrough in the first half.

Poor finishing prevented Panathinaikos from putting Panachaiki to the sword. On the counter, Panachaiki did create a couple of promising openings, but the Patras outfit lacked the quality to take advantage of their few opportunities.

The dominant Athenians eventually made their superiority count in the 52nd minute, as Kolovos finally beat the opposing goalkeeper.

In the box seat, Panathinaikos did add another with 19 minutes remaining, with Kampetsis hitting the target.
