In the first of two scheduled friendly matches for March, the under 21 Greek national team dropped a 3:4 defeat to Slovakia in Zilina.
Head coach Antonis Nikopolidis included the likes of Dimitris Nikolaou, Stefanos Evangelou, Marios Vrousai and Dimitris Limnios in the starting line-up, but it couldn’t prevent the team from conceding a narrow defeat to the Slovakians in a high-scoring affair. Young Panathinaikos striker Argyris Kampetsis impressed with two goals, while PAOK attacker Dimitris Limnios also got on the scoresheet for Greece.
The Slovakians made a fast start, scoring twice within the opening seven minutes as Peter Pokorny and Peter Kolesar struck gold. Kampetsis immediately halved the deficit, but not long after his goal, Robert Bozenik grabbed a third for Slovakia in what was a disastrous first half from a defensive point of view.
Kampetsis scored again before the break to ensure Greece were only one down before the second half.
In the 61st minute, Limnios drew the Greeks level, but with a mere 60 seconds remaining on the clock, Matej Oravec snatched a dramatic Slovakian winner.
