The English side took control of the game early on as they looked for an early goal, while APOEL sat back in defense with hopes of breaking through on the counterattack. APOEL, however, sent the first warning shot in the 19th minute with De Camargo’s rocket finding the post of the Tottenham goal. The close call brought enthusiasm to the stands of the GSP stadium and APOEL kept up their pressure, wasting many chances for an opener, until Harry Kane came along to put Tottenham ahead late in the first half with his 39th minute goal. The goal put a dent in APOEL’s momentum as the visitors took a 0-1 lead into the break.

In the second half, APOEL once again looked a threat when Aloneftis’ strike was denied by Lloris before Kane added his second of the night in the 62nd minute, giving his side a comfortable two-goal advantage. With things going Tottenham's way, Harry Kane completed the hat-trick five minutes later, putting the game way out of reach and Tottenham marched on to an emphatic 0-3 victory in Nicosia.

APOEL will not be disappointed with their performance, looking the better side at different spurts in the game, but in the end, the class of Harry Kane proved to be too much for the Cypriot champions.

In the other group match, Real Madrid defeated Dortmund 1-3 in Germany and are tied with Tottenham atop the Group H standings. APOEL and Dortmund sit bottom of the table with zero points from their first two matches and will match up in Cyprus for matchday 3.
