On Thursday evening, Brentford released this following statement on their social media platforms:

“Brentford FC can confirm the signing of Nikos Karelis, international Greek striker.

The 27-year-old has signed a one-year deal with a Club option for a further year.”

Karelis joins Brentford on a free transfer after leaving KRC Genk this summer.

Last season, Karelis was loaned to PAOK, but he failed to make any kind of impact in Thessaloniki. Karelis only managed to score three goals across all competitions for PAOK, with all of those markers arriving in the Greek Cup. The forward played in five Super League matches as PAOK became champions.

In the past, Karelis has also played for Ergotelis, Amkar Perm and Panathinaikos. Transfermarkt rates his value at 1.25 million euros.

Brentford are currently playing in the Championship, the second tier of English football.
