Kristoffer Kristoffersen to take charge of AEK - Olympiacos derby

As expected, the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) have appointed a foreign referee for the upcoming Super League derby between AEK and Olympiacos on Sunday, handing Mads-Kristoffer Kristoffersen from Denmark the job of overseeing proceedings.

Watch LIVE from AGONAsport: AEK - Olympiacos, Greek SuperLegaue matchday 6 derby on Sunday, October 7th. Details here.

Following the scandals witnessed towards the end of the 2017/2018 Super League campaign, the EPO took the decision to have foreign referees working over large derby matches for the time being. After Finland’s Mattias Gestranius refereed the PAOK - AEK match-up (2:0) and Fedayi San from Switzerland took charge of the Olympiacos - PAOK battle (0:1), the tradition has been continued, with Mads-Kristoffer Kristoffersen of Denmark receiving the task of enforcing the law when AEK host Olympiacos at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

35 years of age, Kristoffer Kristoffersen has been a FIFA registered referee since 2013, gradually earning the trust of UEFA to be given top level matches. So far this season, the Dane has refereed four European games, notably keeping order in the Vidi - BATE UEFA Europa League group stage match (0:2) in which he handed out five yellow cards and one red. He also oversaw the Shkendija - Sheriff (1:0) match in UEFA Champions League qualifying and the Glenavon - Molde (2:1) and Rosenborg - Cork City (3:0) fixtures in the Europa League qualifying stages.

Fellow Danes Dennis Wollenberg Rasmussen and Lars Hummelgaard will be the linesmen while Thanasis Tzilos (Greece) is the fourth official.
