Lamia safely progress; Panionios come up short to Panetolikos in extra time

As expected, Lamia safely progressed to the quarter-finals of the Greek Cup against Trikala, while Panetolikos defeated Panionios on the away goals rule in extra time.

Having scored a crucial away goal in the first leg against Football League side Trikala, Lamia were always in the box seat, and they did progress to the quarter-finals 2-1 on aggregate with a 1-1 draw at home.
Miguel opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a well-taken penalty. However, Trikala weren’t prepared to go down without a fight, and the visitors equalised on the night in the first half as Vasilis Pelkas’ effort deflected up and over the goalkeeper.
One more goal would have taken Trikala through on the away goals rule. In stoppage time, the away team had a glorious opportunity to earn a memorable victory, but a header from point blank range struck the crossbar.
HIGHLIGHTS
In the Super League, both Panionios and Panetolikos are languishing at the bottom of the table, and the two teams cancelled each other out in the Last 16 of the Greek Cup.
The tie remained scoreless after 180 minutes of action. As a result, extra time was required in the Athenian suburb, and Panetolikos eventually struck the all-important away goal in the 116th minute as Admir Bajrovic whipped a superb free-kick into the top corner.
Moments later, Domingues equalised for Panionios with a powerful header, but the Panthers didn’t have time to grab their second goal and avoid elimination.
