Initially, Kerkyra made an indifferent start to the campaign with four points in their opening three matches, however they’ve gained momentum with four championship wins in a row. On the other hand, Ergotelis are beginning to struggle, with the Cretan club now without a win in four successive Football League games after this defeat.

Kerkyra made a bright start against their opponents. Brazilian forward Thuram had the ball in the back of the net after 21 minutes, but before he could begin celebrating, the linesman raised his flag for offside. At the other end, Ergotelis had a glorious chance to break the deadlock right on the stroke of half time, but Giannis Iatroudis contrived to shoot wide from point blank range.

Visitors Kerkyra eventually drew first blood on 51 minutes. Waiting patiently inside the penalty area, Panagiotis Linardos took aim with a neat header, sending his attempt beyond the goalkeeper into the left corner.

However, Ergotelis conjured up an instant reply, as American striker Joseph Efford struck gold just eight minutes later. Boasting too much pace for his markers, Efford found himself practically one on one with the goalkeeper, beating him with a low effort which trickled in with the help of the right post.

The match was there for the taking for both sides, and with 19 minutes remaining on the clock, Kerkyra won it. Linardos was once again the hero, connecting with a pinpoint pass across the box to cooly hit the target and seal a crucial 2:1 win for Kerkyra. In the final moments of stoppage time, Ergotelis almost grabbed a stunning equaliser, but Kerkyra’s Fotis Koutzavasilis pulled off a fantastic save to stop a goalbound free-kick.

After eight matches, Kerkyra sit in third place of the Football League table with 16 points, while Ergotelis are fifth with 14.
