The Romanian manager could write his name into the history books of PAOK this season, with his team is in closing distance of securing their long-awaited league title for the first time since the 1984/1985 season.

After the controversial way in which PAOK managed to lose the Greek Super League last season, they’re were much higher expectations on the Dikefalos tou Vorra this year, especially given that Lucescu had a full pre-season with his players while owner Ivan Savvidis continued to invest heavily into improving the squad.

The Romanian boss has been at the helm of PAOK for 51 Greek Super League matches, tallying 40 wins, 7 draws and 6 defeats, including the technical defeats to Olympiacos and AEK in Thessaloniki in the 2017/2018 season. His winning percentage is an incredible 78% across the past two seasons within the league.

Coming into the current Greek Super League campaign, Lucescu’s men wanted to make a statement, and they are so far remaining unbeaten having registered 19 victories and 3 draws in 22 matches. The Thessaloniki club boast a winning percentage of 86% and Lucescu has the opportunity to become the first PAOK manager in history to go unbeaten throughout an entire Greek championship

Lucescu currently holds the highest winning percentage among all PAOK managers. The Romanian has earned 58 wins with PAOK from a total of 81 matches across all competitions, with a winning percentage of (71.60%) which is well ahead of previous managers in PAOK’s history including Vladimir Ivic (59.4%), Les Shannon (59.1%), Gyula Lorant (58.7%), Angelos Anastasiadis (56.3%), Arie Haan (56.1%), Dusan Bajevic (53.8%), Egon Piechaczek and Fernando Santos (53.4%).

Although those records are incredible for Lucescu, he understands that he still has to complete the job of breaking the club’s 34-year league drought, while also winning the club’s first ever double.
