It’s the one you’ve been waiting for. Olympiacos and PAOK, who are surely in a two-horse race for the Super League crown this year, meet in Piraeus in what promises to be a pulsating battle. At the moment, the two teams share first place of the table with 27 points each, but Olympiacos will be eager to make home advantage count at the sold-out Karaiskakis Stadium.

Olympiacos manager Pedro Martins spoke to Nova Sports about his thoughts for the duel:

What he learned from the game against Tottenham: “This match showed that we are on the right track. Strategically, we were very good. From a tactical point of view, it was one of our best games. We are capable of playing against big clubs. Yes, we lost, but this match against PAOK creates new motivation for us. The majority of our players are feeling good both physically and psychologically.”

Importance of beating PAOK: “The three points would be important for us tomorrow because we want to be in first position. We’re playing at home, and this gives us extra strength. We understand the importance of this derby to all Olympiacos fans. We will only play for the win.”

PAOK’s strengths: “PAOK have plenty of experienced players in their team. We have to be very careful against them. Two Portuguese coaches are facing each other? The players will play football on the pitch, not us. This is the most important thing.”

Satisfaction with the season so far: “The happiness of a coach depends on the results. You can never say that you are happy after a draw or a defeat. I have motivation and ambition here, and I really want to win the championship. I am happy to work with Olympiacos.”

Doping control checks: “Yesterday, four of our players were checked. Our doors are open, we’re available for these checks. We have nothing to hide and nothing to be scared of.”

Factor of Karaiskakis Stadium being sold out: “We are grateful for the support of our fans. They always help us and we appreciate that. We know that they will be by our side again, like they always are.”

Abel Ferreira engaged in a conversation with PAOK TV ahead of the game in Piraeus:

Thoughts ahead of taking on Olympiacos: “I have a huge desire to participate in this derby. I’ve long heard about this rivalry and I want to feel satisfied with my team when the match ends. These matches are a challenge. Nevertheless, we’re always consistent in the way we approach games, our plan remains the same. Our goal is to earn the victory, because we’re focused on retaining the Super League trophy. Of course, we understand the importance which this derby carries, but we treat every match the same.”
