At around 3:00 AM, Greece’s Gloria Privileggio finished the marathon in just under three hours (2:58:43). With this result, she finished in 29th place out of 70 competitors.

In qualifying of the men’s pole vault competition, both Greek athletes came close to reaching the final, but were ultimately eliminated. Needing to finish in the top 12 out of 33 competitors, Konstantinos Filippidis finished 13th, with his highest clearance being 5.70 metres. Coming in 15th place was 19-year-old Emmanouil Karalis, with his highest clearance being 5.60 metres.

Long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglou was favored to win a medal in Doha. However, the 21-year-old was not able to follow up on his European Championship titles (indoor and outdoor), finishing a disappointing tenth. His best jump of the day was 7.79 metres.

Alexandros Papamichail finished 17th out of 46 in the men’s 50 km walk, with a time of 4:22:39. On the women’s side, 41-year-old World Championships debutant Angeliki Makri was 14th with a time of 4:54:09.

Team Greece will hope that Sunday will be a better day. With defending champion Ekaterini Stefanidi and 2015 bronze medalist Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou taking part in the final of the women’s pole vault, Greece could win their first medal of this year’s World Championships. Additionally, Antigoni Drisbioti will race in the final of the women’s 20 km walk.
