PAOK released this following statement on Friday morning:

“Josip Misic has been ruled out of coach Abel Ferreira’s plans for the remainder of the season due to a groin injury.

“Following some routine medical examinations, but also a clinical examination, it’s emerged that the Croatian midfielder has a cyst in his groin area and he will undergo surgery next week. Misic therefore will not be able to play a part in the remaining matches for both the Super League and the Greek Cup.”

The news comes as another huge blow for Abel Ferreira. Last week, PAOK produced a dismal performance in their 1-0 home defeat to Olympiacos, and now the struggling Dikefalos tou Vorra will have to compete without arguably their best midfielder as they aim to maintain second spot of the Super League and retain the Greek Cup.

PAOK will face Panathinaikos in Athens on Saturday evening (21:30).

Overall, Misic made 32 appearances for PAOK during the current campaign, registering six goals and 11 assists. PAOK are expected to subsequently sign the 25-year-old Croatian midfielder on a permanent basis from Sporting.
