AEK released this following statement on their official website:

“AEK FC announces the departure of Manolo Jimenez. The club thanks him for his third spell as the head coach.

The Spanish coach, who managed 145 matches with our club, has his own chapter in the history of AEK and is one of the most successful coaches by winning the Greek Cup in 2011 and the Super League in 2018.

Thank you for everything, Manolo!

The entire yellow and black family wishes you the warmest of wishes and more success in your coaching career!

Amigos para siempre, Manolo!”

Jimenez returned to AEK for his third spell as manager in February following the resignation of Marinos Ouzounidis. However, it didn’t go to plan for the 55-year-old, as the level of AEK’s performance didn’t rise to the expected level. AEK finished in third position of the Super League while reaching the final of the Greek Cup.

He had previously won the Greek Cup in 2011 and the Super League in 2018 when AEK boss.

It’s now fully expected that 46-year-old Portuguese manager Miguel Cardoso will replace him as AEK head coach.
