Olympiacos’ winless run in the EuroLeague was put to rest on Tuesday night when the Piraeus giants mustered a 72-62 win over Bayern Munich at the Audi Dome in Munich.
After tough losses to CSKA Moscow, Panathinaikos, and Fenerbahce, Olympiacos rebounded with a win in Germany thanks to a true team effort that featured five players manage double figures in scoring.
Zach LeDay led Olympiacos for the second straight game with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double off the bench. Nikola Milutinov added 11 points and 7 rebounds for a strong showing for the Serbian centre, while Janis Strelnieks, Janis Timma, and Georgios Printezis each tallied 10 points.
Derrick Williams and Vladimir Lucic each notched 15 points to lead Bayern on the evening as the German side aimed to rebound from last week’s humbling loss to CSKA Moscow.
Neither side managed to claim a lead in the first quarter as both sides played out a 15-15 opening frame in Bavaria.
Olympiacos, however, would take the initiative in the second frame and managed to secure a 31-27 run by halftime.
The Olympiacos lead didn’t last for long as Bayern creeped closer in the third frame with a 16-14 run to poise the game nicely heading into the final frame.
It was in the fourth quarter that Olympiacos would show their quality with a 27-19 run in the final frame to halt their losing streak.
Olympiacos, who are now 4-4 on the season, will now look to win back-to-back games for the first time since starting the season at 2-0 when the Piraeus giants return home to defending champions Real Madrid at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Thursday.
