Hopes of making the playoffs are becoming increasingly slim. In a game between two former winners of the EuroLeague, it was Fenerbahce who emerged victorious, as the Turkish visitors produced a solid display to defeat Olympiacos by nine points in Piraeus. As a result, both Olympiacos and Fenerbahce share a 6-11 record in the regular season, occupying 13th and 14th place of the standings respectively.

Next week, Olympiacos travel to Valencia looking to finally snap the losing streak, while Fenerbahce will aim to gain some traction away at Baskonia.

Nando De Colo was on top form for Fenerbahce, tallying 32 points, three assists and two rebounds. Kostas Sloukas grabbed 13 points, nine assists and four rebounds for the Turks.

Vassilis Spanoulis scored 14 points to historically become the all-time EuroLeague leading scorer.

THE MATCH

Fenerbahce, showing poise and confidence which has rarely been seen this season, largely controlled proceedings from start to finish, despite registering less rebounds and assists.

Overall, it was mainly their shooting from behind the arch which won them the game, as Fenerbahce drained 16 three-pointers compared to Olympiacos’ eight. Sloukas’ stunning buzzer-beater from distance was the highlight:

The second quarter was vital. Already leading by two from the first period, Fenerbahce exploded into life, winning the frame 30-20 to give themselves clear daylight.

In the concluding two periods, Olympiacos did attempt a comeback, but the difference was too large as Fenerbahce calmly saw the match out to earn only their sixth triumph of the campaign.
