Last week, Olympiacos tasted yet another heavy defeat in this season’s EuroLeague, falling to Anadolu Efes at the Peace and Friendship Stadium 67-86. The defeat marked the Erythrolefki’s third consecutive home defeat in the EuroLeague.

The last time Olympiacos conceded three consecutive home defeats in the EuroLeague was 15 years ago during the 2004/05 season. Similar to this season, all three defeats came in the early part of the season. The Reds lost to Climamio Bologna 71-76, then conceded a narrow defeat to Prokom Trefl Sopot 75-77, before dropping a heavy defeat to Efes Pilsen 59-110.

Olympiacos broke their home winless drought against Cibona VIP with an 89-83 victory in overtime. That season, Olympiacos finished seventh in Group A of the Regular Season and bowed out of the competition early on.

This time around, Olympiacos have had a horrendous start to the EuroLeague season currently holding a 2-5 record with three of their five defeats coming at home. The three-game home winless streak started with a 68-77 loss to Zenit, followed by heavy defeats to Maccabi Tel-Aviv (65-90) and Anadolu Efes (67-86). Olympiacos did begin the season with a 83-69 home victory over Valencia.

Olympiacos’ bad start to the season is a continuation of last year’s poor finish where the Erythrolefki failed to qualify for the EuroLeague playoffs, despite being in contention for a top-four finish in the first half of the campaign. As a result of last year’s poor finish and this season’s troubling start, Olympiacos have won only five out of their last 18 EuroLeague games dating back to to 24 January 2019.

Olympiacos currently occupy 15th place in the 2019/20 EuroLeague standings.
