This following official statement was released by Olympiacos:

“With deep sorrow and pain, Olympiacos FC bids farewell to the legendary Ilias Rosidis. A native of Piraeus, having been born in the city on February 3, 1927, he joined the club in 1948 and represented Olympiacos for 13 years. One of the prominent members of the team which won six successive championships between 1954 and 1959, Ilias won a grand total of nine championships and 10 Greek Cups. Olympiacos FC extends its warmest condolences to his relatives.”

Rosidis, who played as a right-back, also made a grand total of 29 appearances for the senior Greek national team. He hung up his boots in 1961 after spending his entire professional career at hometown club Olympiacos.

The Olympiacos Veterans’ Association also paid tribute to Rosidis:

“The Olympiacos Veterans’ Association pays tribute to Ilias Rosidis, a legendary captain of both Olympiacos and the national team. The legendary leader of the 1950s won nine championships, 10 Cups, several doubles and played for the Thrylos for 13 years while also leading the national team for 11 years. Due to his pace, he was the first attacking full-back in Greek football. Ilias Rosidis was one of the founders of the Olympiacos Veterans’ Association, participating in over 500 charity events. Our leader will now watch Olympiacos’ matches above the Karaiskakis Stadium where he wrote golden pages of history.”
