Olympiacos reaping benefit of in-form El-Arabi

The first half of the 2019/20 season has been a positive one for Olympiacos. The former Caen, Al-Hilal, and Granada frontman has responded with a terrific start to his career in Greece. In 24 appearances, El-Arabi has scored 14 goals in all competitions. His nine goals lead the Greek Super League 1, and he has also scored five times in European matches this season in both the Champions’ League qualifiers and Group Stage.
El-Arabi has also contributed four assists on the domestic front, another indicator to his growing importance in the Olympiacos set-up. His conversion rate of one goal every 3.7 chances is third in the Super League 1. The Moroccan hitman may have begun the season splitting time with fellow striker Miguel Angel Guerrero, but in the last two months, he has become the undisputed choice in the lone striker role in Martins’ preferred 4-3-3 formation.
El-Arabi has endeared himself to the supporters at the Karaiskakis Stadium with some virtuoso performances. Top of the list is undoubtedly his 87th-minute penalty conversion in the Champions’ League Group Stage finale against Red Star Belgrade earlier this month. That goal ensured Olympiacos’ continental run would continue this season in the Europa League.
With eyes on reclaiming domestic dominance as well as continuing in Europe, Olympiacos have lofty goals as the season heads into a crucial phase. After many years, the club now possess a striker who is not only in a rich vein of form but one who can hit the back of the net prolifically.
