Violence ahead of kick-off marred the much-anticipated Super League derby between Olympiacos and PAOK last week. While there were no problems inside the Karaiskakis Stadium itself, a group consisting of an estimated 20 Olympiacos fans angrily approached the PAOK players when they arrived at the arena, before fights with riot police subsequently ensued.

Gazzetta.gr released this following video:

The match ended 1-1.

It has now been confirmed that Olympiacos have received a two-game stadium ban and a fine amounting to 61,500 euros for the incident:

“As a result of the behaviour of the fans, there is a total fine of sixty-one thousand five hundred (61,500) euros and a penalty of two matches with no supporters.”

Olympiacos are now set to host AE Larissa and Panathinaikos inside an empty stadium. The Derby of the Eternal Enemies is scheduled to be played in early 2020.

In the 2017/2018 season, the same match-up was also played at a deserted Karaiskakis Stadium, as Panathinaikos equalised with a late penalty to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Olympiacos, however, will appeal the decision.

The Erythrolefki currently occupy joint first place of the standings with PAOK, holding 28 points after 12 rounds. Olympiacos will face Panetolikos in Agrinio on Saturday.
