Olympiacos’ 2019/2020 campaign has been one where the Piraeus club have broken all sorts of records historically and been able to top the charts against all other clubs for this season.

With respect to the current campaign, statistically, Olympiacos ruled everywhere. The Erythrolefki topped the league in the following categories:

  • Points - 66

  • Wins - 20

  • Most goals scored - 53

  • Fewest goals allowed - 9

  • Best goal difference - 44

  • Most assists - 35

  • Most chances created - 355

  • Most times hitting the post - 13

  • Most passes completed - 2,010

  • Top goalscorer - Youssef El-Arabi 17

  • Most assists - Mathieu Valbuena 11

Not only did Olympiacos manage to beat out the other clubs in many of this season’s main categories, but they also were able to break some historic records.

The team matched the record of Panathinaikos (1963/64) and PAOK (2018/19) for going two full rounds of play undefeated as they won 20, drew six, and lost none. They will have to continue their unbeaten run in the upcoming playoffs to be considered as a team that finished the entire season without losing.

Defensively, Olympiacos broke a few long-standing records. Pedro Martins’ side became the first team in Greek history to concede a single-digit number of goals for the season with nine goals allowed. Though this was only a 26-game season, Olympiacos’ strong defensive performances saw the team also take over the record for lowest goals per game average with 0.35. This breaks the old mark held by the same club of 0.38 goals per game allowed from the 1972/73 campaign.

Finally, the last record to fall was away goals allowed. Olympiacos gave up a paltry three away goals on the season, a remarkable figure that breaks the old mark of six set by the club in the 2008/09 season.

This all adds up as a season to remember for the team, especially if they can push on and claim the league and cup double in the next two months.
