Panathinaikos gained their second consecutive away win in the EuroLeague, defeating Bayern Munich 87-75 in Germany.

Since Argyris Pedoulakis received the sack last week, Panathinaikos have suddenly gained momentum under the guidance of temporary boss Giorgos Vovoras, defeating Zalgiris in Kaunas and now beating Bayern Munich in Germany. Panathinaikos occupy seventh place of the EuroLeague standings with six wins from 10 games.

Rick Pitino will be at the helm when Panathinaikos face Baskonia at the OAKA Indoor Hall next week.

Bayern Munich sit in 12th place of the table with four victories and six defeats.

Deshaun Thomas was the leading Panathinaikos scorer with 14 points, while Tyrese Rice (13 points), Nick Calathes (12 points) Konstantinos Mitoglou (11 points), Ioannis Papapetrou (11 points) and Jimmer Fredette (10 points) also impressed.

THE MATCH

A three-pointer from Fredette gave Panathinaikos an early lead in the first quarter. However, Bayern quickly came back into proceedings, scoring with regularity to keep Panathinaikos at bay and gain a 24-16 advantage.

Panathinaikos gradually started bossing the match in the second quarter. Keeping in touch with Bayern, they reduced the deficit and with 33 seconds remaining in the period, Fredette converted three free-throws to give the Greeks a one-point lead at the break.

In the box seat, Panathinaikos improved further in the concluding two frames, notably winning the third 29-18. Mitoglou completed the job in the closing seconds with an emphatic dunk:
