Panionios were denied a third win of the season on Sunday as an added time own goal from defender Yaya Banana allowed unbeaten Atromitos to salvage a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Nea Smyrni Municipal stadium, while Asteras Tripolis’ struggles continued with a 1-1 away draw at Panaitolikos.

Damir Canadi’s Atromitos went into the match against the Panthers as favorites, but Panagiotis Korbos and Giorgos Masouras put the home side on course for a 2-1 win with Efthymios Koulouris again on target for the visitors.

But a spell of late pressure culminated in Banana accidentally putting the ball past his own goalkeeper Matic Kotnik agonisingly late in the fourth minute of added time to leave the scores locked at 2-2.

It’s a result which means that Atromitos maintained their unbeaten record in the SuperLeague so far this season after right matches, and the Peristeri club are top of the standings with 20 points, one point ahead of PAOK, who play Panathinaikos at the Toumba tomorrow.

Troubled Asteras can’t buy a win

In Agrinio, winless Asteras Tripolis continued to falter as they relied on last gasp added time goal from Nikos Kaltsas to salvage a 1-1 draw against hosts Panaitolikos.

In a game of few chances it was the home side who looked on course to claim all three points thanks to a deflected free-kick from striker Vlad Morar after 66 minutes. The 25-year-old Romanian forward’s goal came during a purple patch from the home side just three minutes after Panaitolikos had hit the post through Nikola Mana.

Asteras battled manfully but their finishing and general play in the final third let them down as they looked all set to go home from this Matchday 8 clash empty-handed. But Kaltsas struck in the third minute of added time to rescue a point.

Despite the draw, Tripolis are still winless after eight matches and remain stranded third-from-bottom in the table with five points - just two ahead of Levadiakos who occupy the second relegation spot.
