Panionios conquer in-form Aris in Nea Smyrni
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 6
Panionios | 1 - 0 | Aris |

Domingues 41' |
Panionios chalked up their second win of the season on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Aris in a tightly-contested matchday 6 clash at the Nea Smyrni Stadium, while Panaitolikos picked up only their second win of the campaign with a 2-1 success over Levadiakos in Agrinio.
Luiz Gustavo Domingues scored the only goal of the game in the first half to seal three vital points for the home side, who only picked up their first win at struggling Apollon Smyrnis last week.
Gustavo rose highest to head home a corner from Srđan Spiridonović four minutes before half-time to send the home fans into raptures.
There were chances for both sides to add to the scoreline in the second half, but the determined Panthers hung on for a precious win which helps them climb the table after a difficult early season set of fixtures against the likes of champions AEK, PAOK and Olympiacos.
Aris have started their first season back in the top flight after a long absence impressively, and this defeat was only their second in their opening six matches.
Panaitolikos see off Levadiakos
Panetolikos | 2 - 1 | Levadiakos |
---|---|---|
Eriksson 49' Morar 58' |
Sawadogo 86' |
Elsewhere, Panaitolikos won for the second time this season thanks to second-half goals from Sebastian Eriksson and Vlad Morar, beating Levadiakos 2-1.
Chances were at a premium in a match low on quality, but the home side managed to breach the creaky Levadiakos backline through Eriksson after 49 minutes and Morar just nine minutes later.
Those strikes sealed an important win for Traianos Dellas’ Panaitolikos, while putting Levadiakos, for whom Souleymane Sawadogo netted a late consolation goal, in further trouble at the wrong end of the table.
